6 month old Chicago girl shot, dies

Chicago, Il - Six-month old Jonylah Watkins, who was shot alongside her father on monday, has died.

Her father, Jonathan Watkins, 29, was changing her diaper, Monday, on the passenger side of a minivan when he was shot in the side, buttock and suffered a graze wound to his face.

Jonylah suffered injuries to her lung, liver, leg, shoulder and bowel or intestine. She died tuesday at Comer Children's Hospital despite surgeons efforts to save her.

Police told the Chicago Tribune that they have leads towards identifying the perpatrator of the shooting.

Police believe they have video of a blue van, to which the gunman apparently fled before speeding away. 

Watkins, police said, is a gang member with a history of arrests for drug and illegal weapons possession.
"It appears he's the intended victim, exclusively the father," said Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy. "He's in a lot of pain."
